Health & Wellness
Caring for Child’s Health Through Clean Spaces, Healthy Habits, and Strong Family Partnerships
At Heartworks, children’s health, safety, and well‑being are at the center of everything we do. We take a proactive, thoughtful approach to wellness—creating clean, nurturing environments where children can learn, grow, and thrive with confidence.
We know that young children are still building their immune systems, and illness is sometimes unavoidable. Our goal is to reduce the spread of illness, support healthy habits, and partner closely with families to care for each child with compassion and consistency.
A proactive approach to everyday wellness.
Our Health & Wellness practices are designed to meet or exceed state early education and childcare regulations, while also reflecting what families expect from a modern, values‑driven early learning community.
We focus on:
- Preventing the spread of illness through daily hygiene routines
- Teaching children healthy habits in developmentally appropriate ways
- Maintaining clean, safe classrooms using child‑safe products
- Supporting families with clear, transparent health policies
Hygiene & handwashing: healthy habits that last a lifetime
Handwashing is one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of germs—and it’s a skill children practice every day at Heartworks.
Our educators:
- Model and teach proper handwashing techniques
- Encourage frequent handwashing throughout the day
- Use running water and liquid soap
- Help children wash for at least 20 seconds, including under fingernails
These routines help children build independence while learning how to care for their own health in age‑appropriate ways.
Clean classrooms, thoughtfully maintained
Children explore the world with their hands—and often their mouths—so maintaining a clean learning environment is essential.
At Heartworks, we:
- Clean and disinfect high‑touch surfaces throughout the day
- Regularly rotate and sanitize toys and classroom materials
- Follow strict daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedules
- Use child‑safe, eco‑conscious disinfectants whenever possible
Our approach prioritizes effectiveness without relying on harsh chemicals. We clean and sanitize with Force of Nature, an EPA-registered disinfectant that’s safe for children, effective against germs, and eco-friendly.
Illness policies that protect our community.
Keeping our community healthy requires a strong partnership between families and staff. Heartworks follows a clear, detailed illness policy designed to reduce the spread of infection while supporting families with empathy and understanding.
When children show signs of illness:
- Families may be asked to pick up their child early
- Children may need to remain home until symptoms improve
- Decisions are made thoughtfully, based on the child’s comfort and community health
We believe families are essential partners in maintaining a healthy learning environment. Clear communication, shared expectations, and mutual trust help us support each child’s needs more effectively.
Families receive:
- Clear information about our health and wellness policies
- Guidance on when children should stay home
- Ongoing communication when health concerns arise
Our goal is always to care for each individual child while protecting the well‑being of the entire Heartworks community.
Ongoing training & professional standards
Our educators receive regular training and professional development related to:
- Infection prevention
- Health and safety best practices
- Recognizing symptoms of common childhood illnesses
- Supporting children’s physical and emotional well‑being
This ensures that health practices are consistent, current, and thoughtfully applied across every Heartworks classroom.
A safe, healthy place to learn and grow.
At Heartworks, health and wellness are not checklists—they are daily practices rooted in care, respect, and responsibility. From clean classrooms to strong family partnerships, every decision we make supports a safe, nurturing environment where children can focus on what matters most: learning, playing, and growing with joy.
